Focus on the Audience

Posted on

Learn early that this is not about you…it is about enlightening your audience with your passion.  Speak about things that you find exciting.  When you have no choice but to pitch a product or service that has little to do with your passion, ask yourself, “What in this feels right?” and “How can I connect this to the audience?”   When we care deeply about our topic and we are passionate about delivering value to our audience, it’s easy to communicate an exciting energy. If you are in a position where you are trying to speak in public about a subject you don’t love, you should simply stop or at least examine where you stand.  Even in situations where we must present for work, or on a topic that is not our passion, we should find an element to connect with, and through the audience is a great place to start.
